2013 Adelaide Fashion Festival official opening
Held at the stunning Government House for the second time, the official launch of the Adelaide Fashion Festival has kicked everything into motion for what's sure to be an interesting two weeks. (One for me, as I'll be off to Los Angeles/Colorado halfway through the festival!) The personal home of His Excellency Kevin Scarce was an apt backdrop for Adelaide fashion: conservative, aristocratic, and aesthetically crowd-pleasing.
For the first time, though, the festival acknowledged Australian Fashion Labels' contribution to the local industry, and it's clear the group, which owns Finders Keepers, Cameo, Keepsake and Jagger, will play no small role in this year's events. The labels stand far apart from the pricier, network-driven labels that have traditionally been the pillars of the festival, like, Paolo Sebastian and Liza Emanuele. If mass-market labels continue to be embraced by the festival, it'll be interesting to see how it progresses. Whatever the case, it's refreshing to see a new approach and the stepping up of a new guard.
To stay in the loop with Adelaide Fashion Festival events, have a look at the Adelaide fashion calendar I've set up. There are plenty of events both free & ticketed, so there's no excuse not to get along to something.
